Welcome to mrs. Swing's
selwyn elementaRY SCHOOL
art page!
HAPPY AUTUMN EVERYONE!!!
Art classes are off to a GREAT start!
I want to welcome Mrs. Kristen Chorneau to our art program. She is here on Mondays, Tuesdays, and after 11 a.m. on Wednesdays. I am here full time. Some classes have both of us for art. We are collaborating on exciting projects for our students, and look forward to a super year!
Students across grade levels recently celebrated International Dot Day (Sept. 15th), a movement that grew from the inspirational children's book The Dot, by Peter H. Reynolds. The message of the book is to always try, as you never know what you will be good at, so go out and make your unique mark on the world. All classes did art activities with a dot theme. You will see many of them displayed throughout our halls.
Congratulations to the following Selwyn artists who represented our school at Festival in the Park:
Larson Shull, Anna Blair Huie, Benji Myers, Sally Shull, Maddie Parbst, and Jamileth Mayorga. Your talent makes Selwyn shine!
Please be aware that my Art Room (B17) is located near the end of the main hall, while Mrs. Chorneau's room is in the Fine Arts building, with the music classes.
Parent volunteers are needed and very much appreciated throughout the school year. Parents (grades K-2 and A-Team only) please sign up to help in Art class via your child's classroom teacher. If you have a child in grades 3-5, and are available on an "as needed" basis, please email Mrs. Swing at [email protected]. I appreciate having parents whom I can call upon for certain projects. Please make sure you know which art teacher your child has, and also be aware of any of their field trip days when you sign up to volunteer, as they may not have art class that particular day you picked.
We also have an Art Support Committee that assists with preparing, labeling and hanging work the first semester. The co-chairs this year are Mrs. Andreanna Pappas and Mrs. Dawn Johnson. Parents please donate time to help at your convenience.
May 4th is our annual fine arts festival, Selwyn Celebrates the Arts (SCARTS), and we will need MANY hands to help hang thousands of student art works. If you would like to be a part of our SCARTS Committee, please contact Mrs. Dina Beelaert or Mrs. Allison Reece.
If you would like to donate items, we constantly need old newspapers, as well as donations of tissues, baby wipes (for cleaning little hands) and disinfectant wipes (for cleaning tables). Thank you for your donations of these items as well as your time in the classroom!
